MBA vs. M.Sc. in Management  

 

You would have commonly heard of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) academic degree. But there have been several universities across Europe, as well as increasingly in Asia and North America, which also offer a Master of Science (M.Sc.) academic degree in management. Though both the MBA and the M.Sc. degrees include courses in general management, there is a liking that has started developing among recent graduates for the M.Sc. degree. This is mainly happening as M.Sc. usually targets these fresh graduates without any job experience, while MBA focuses on professionals who have at least worked for two years or so.  

 

The management theory gains a practical application in the MBA program, but M.Sc. offers a conceptual foundation that is at an advanced level in any field the student has selected. Also, the level of research for a master’s thesis is highly focused in M.Sc., while MBA emphasizes more on strategy. Basically, the MBA degree covers the discipline of business administration and the M.Sc. in Management degree covers the discipline of Management. As compared to MBA that is more focused on financial aspects and oriented toward practice, M.Sc. in Management develops specific skill sets for managers and is more oriented toward theory.  

 

You may say that the M.Sc. degree supports the entry of students in academia and MBA helps them enter the industry at managerial positions.
